What is Dotbox?

Is there a free plan?

Do I need an account to design a QR code?

No. You can open the generator, upload a logo, style your code, and preview it without signing up. Creating a free account lets you save the code to your dashboard so it stays live and manageable.

What's the difference between a static and dynamic QR code?

A static QR code has its destination baked directly into the printed pattern — reliable, but the link can't change once it's printed. A dynamic QR code (Pro and Business) redirects through Dotbox, so you can update the destination anytime without reprinting, and every scan gets tracked.

Can I use my own logo and colors?

Yes, on every plan. Upload a logo and Dotbox extracts brand colors automatically, or set your own palette, dot style, and finder-eye shape by hand.

What styles can I choose from?

Ten dot styles (dots, rounded, squares, diamond, cross, vertical, horizontal, star, hexagon, and tiny), three finder-eye shapes (rounded, circle, square) with separate outer and inner colors, six preset palettes or your own two-color gradient, and an optional background image with adjustable opacity.

Will a styled QR code still scan reliably?

Dotbox generates every code with the highest error-correction level (H), which lets a QR code stay readable even when part of it is covered — that's what makes room for a logo in the middle. Eye colors derived from your logo are automatically kept dark enough to scan. We still recommend test-scanning with a couple of phones before a big print run.

Yes. Downloads are exported at print-ready size rather than screen size, so they hold up on packaging, signage, and business cards.

Yes, on Pro and Business. Every saved code encodes a Dotbox short link rather than your destination directly, so updating the destination in your dashboard takes effect on the very next scan — no reprinting.

Dynamic QR codes on Pro and Business track scans by day, device, and location in your dashboard, so you can see a code performing before deciding whether to reprint or adjust it.

What does Business-plan advanced analytics add?

Business adds a CSV export of your scan data, a breakdown by browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge), peak scan times by hour of day, and a ranked comparison across all of your QR codes.

Can I pause a QR code?

Yes. You can pause and reactivate any saved code from your dashboard. While it's paused, anyone who scans it sees a branded Dotbox page explaining the code is temporarily disabled.

Can I password-protect a QR code?

Yes. Turn on password protection when creating or editing a code, and scanners will see a branded password prompt before they're redirected. Wrong passwords are rejected, and repeated attempts are rate-limited.

Can a QR code expire automatically?

Yes. You can set an expiration date, a maximum number of scans, or both — whichever is reached first switches the code off. After that, scanners see a branded "expired" page instead of your destination.

Can I change my plan later?

Yes — upgrade, downgrade, or cancel anytime from your account billing settings.

How is billing handled?

Pro and Business are billed monthly through Stripe. Your card details are handled by Stripe, not stored by Dotbox.

What happens when I cancel?

Cancellation stops future billing. You keep your current plan's features until the end of the period you already paid for, then your account moves to the free Starter plan.

What if a payment fails?

We'll retry the charge and give you a short grace period to update your payment method before your plan is downgraded. Your saved QR codes are not deleted because of a billing issue.

Do you offer refunds?

Subscription charges are non-refundable, including partial billing periods. If you think you were charged in error, email hello@dotbox.io and we'll review it.

I forgot my password. What do I do?

Accepted Answer

Use "Forgot password" on the sign-in page. We'll email you a reset link that's valid for 60 minutes.

How do I delete my account?

Accepted Answer

Go to Settings in your dashboard and choose Delete account. You'll confirm with your password, and any active subscription is cancelled immediately so you aren't billed again.
